Huddersfield Town Academy Coach Jon Worthington was delighted for his side after they were crowned 2019/20 Clarets Cup winners with a 1-0 victory over Burnley at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Young Terriers controlled possession over the course of the game and got their deserved breakthrough on 69 minutes, as Ben Midgley tucked home from the penalty spot.

Worthy said it was satisfying to see Town lift the Clarets Cup after a challenging campaign.

“I’m pleased for the lads.

“It has been a long, tough season and it is nice for them to get the rewards at the end of the season.”

Despite only winning by one goal, Town created several good chances to extend their advantage.

Worthy stated that finals are traditionally tight affairs but praised how the Young Terriers managed proceedings on the evening.

“It is a bit annoying, but on another day, I do think we score more goals.

“I think finals are always a little bit cagey though and close-run contests, and that’s the way it was in terms of the scoreline, but I did think we dominated the ball for large periods of the game.”

This draws an end to another campaign for the Academy, who have ended the season with a deserved trophy.

Worthy expressed his confidence in the Young Terriers to maintain their development going into next season.

“I’ve got a lot of belief in this group of players and I am confident that they’ll go on and have excellent careers, so I think it is nice when you have a group in there that work extremely hard day in, day out, and finish with a cup final win.”
