Huddersfield Town are proud to be participating in the International Day of People with Disabilities.

Begun by the United Nations in 1945, the International Day of People with Disabilities’ (IDPWD) main purpose is to call for the creation of an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable society and community, with a real focus on promoting the well-being and welfare of people with disabilities.

Those aims and considerations are shared by the Club, with a real desire to make Town and the John Smith’s Stadium as open and inclusive an environment as possible for all to participate in and enjoy.

Working closely with the Huddersfield Town Disabled Supporters’ Club, their monthly meetings have seen visits from Club Ambassadors Andy Booth and Michael Hefele in recent months, with Head Coach Carlos Corberán and Chief Executive Mark Devlin also attending to take part in Q&A sessions.

The Club also runs a Hidden Disability scheme for people who may wish to discreetly indicate they need additional support on match day to stewards or Club staff, and more information about this can be found by contacting dlo@htafc.com.

We are proud to have achieved Disability Confident Leader status, which is an important part of the work we do to ensure that disabled people have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations, both in employment and support of the Club.

Club staff have also recently undergone Mental Health first aid training to learn how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing mental health difficulties. Similarly, we are a Mindful Employer - which forms part of our commitment to supporting our employees with their mental health and wellbeing.

Commenting on IDPWD, Supporter Services Manager Robyn Kennerdale said:

“We are proud to mark awareness days such as IDPWD and highlight the work that goes on all year round across the Club and Foundation to encourage acceptance and try to understand and remove any barriers that might exist for supporters, staff or anyone else engaging with HTAFC.

“On top of existing schemes, we have been working hard to develop an inclusive space at the John Smith’s Stadium to further support fans with disabilities or additional needs and we are looking forward to sharing more information about this in the New Year.

“We are committed to making improvements across the board for people with disabilities, and I would encourage anyone with ideas or feedback to contact us at supporterservices@htafc.com.”
