Aaron Rowe, Michael Hefele, and Andy Booth joined Year 9 and 10 students from Newsome Academy for their morning assembly during Black History Month.
A session focussed on diversity, inclusivity and combatting racism, the pupils were given the opportunity to ask Aaron, Hef, and Boothy questions directly on their own views, advice, and how the Club is involved in promoting diversity and equality.
With several performances from the students that included some singing, dancing and a parade of flags, the session was a celebration of different cultures and backgrounds, which our attendees were all delighted to have been a part of.
Staying on after the assembly to speak with pupils and teachers one-on-one and pose for a few selfies, it was a welcome return to in-person visits for the Club, which had been previously paused during the height of the pandemic.
Town Ambassador Andy Booth commented:
“It was brilliant to join Aaron and Michael at Newsome Academy for their assembly.
“It’s such an important topic, and one that is incredibly meaningful to us as a Club, so it was brilliant to see Aaron engaging with the pupils and being a role model for them.
“It’s been a long time since we were able to visits schools in this way and it’s always been a highlight of my role, so I’m personally delighted to be getting out back across Huddersfield and representing Town at events like these.”
Hef echoed those sentiments, adding:
“Since coming back to the Club in my new position, visiting schools and meeting young fans has been amazing and something I enjoy being part of.
“This was an important message and assembly, so I was happy to be here to support the school and speak with the pupils, who were all interested in what Aaron had to say.
“We are a family club and open to everybody, so of course this is something we support.”
The visit to Newsome Academy falls under the established ‘Terriers Together’ brand, which brings together all of our efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in all that we do.
