Carlos Corberán was full of praise for his side after they brought 2021 to a close with a 0-1 win away at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest.
Speaking at full-time, he discussed how his side found some advantages in attack that allowed them chances on goal, but had their defence to thank for the victory.
“In some moments we showed the style that want to play.
“We found some advantages in the middle of the field that allowed us to beat the press of the opponent to attack more.
“It’s also true that sometimes we lost the ball and allowed a team to break who are really dangerous when they have space to run and move in behind.
“It was very defensively demanding, and without that work in defence, it wouldn’t have impossible to take the three points.
“But it was a positive result to continue growing as a team.”
Expanding on how his team approached their shape moving forwards, the Head Coach was pleased with how the left hand side operated on the night, whilst accepting that there are still areas in which Town can get better.
“It’s always important to attack well. We attacked the left side with O’Brien, Toffolo and Holmes, and in times – such as the action for the goal – they found a good combination between them.
“On the right hand side we attacked with Turton, Sorba Thomas and Sinani, but we didn’t find the same advantages on that side.
“But for me, in attack, in the middle of the pitch, we found the advantages to break the press and attack more.
“In the end, it was positive but there are things we need to also improve on.”
When asked about the performance of Lee Nicholls and his impact since joining the Club, there was no shortage of praise for Town’s go-to goalkeeper from Carlos.
“Without him, it would’ve been impossible to get three points.
“Lee Nicholls is a very good goalkeeper, and very good keepers have skills for everything.
“He is very good defending the goal, he is very good in the areas in the small box, he helps the team a lot with his distribution in attack and gives a lot of confidence to our defenders.
“I cannot find better skills in one keeper than he has.”
