Huddersfield Town’s new Under-17s Coach George Danaher feels confident knowing the club have faith in him to step up and lead the group.

Danaher’s appointment comes following Jon Worthington taking charge of the B Team and Under-19s Coach.

The 20-year-old has had a rapid rise since moving into coaching. Following his release as a player from the Club’s Academy two years ago, Danaher has worked alongside Worthy with the Under-17s, where he has helped ready the next group of Young Terriers.

Danaher spoke of his delight to be trusted with the role, coaching players only three years younger than himself, and his commitment to training the Young Terriers.

“It’s been an excellent opportunity for me. The main aim with every member of staff in the Academy is to improve the players, so whether I’m leading the whole group or leading individual sessions with players, the aim is always the same; to improve them and get them into the First Team.

“It’s been a fantastic journey for me so far. I’m in a position that I doubt many other clubs offer, in terms of being one of the youngest coaches to take charge leading this age group at this level. The Club have been fantastic with me from the moment that I came into the building. From when I was released as a player 18, through to now, they’ve been fantastic helping me with my coaching.

“I worked with Worthy day to day last year which really helped me, I was able to see what he was doing and learnt from that. Since Carlos has come in it’s a new way and a new style, which is exciting me - it’s exciting everyone at the Club - so I think it’s great for me as a young coach to be around these high-quality coaches and learn from them.

“The trust of the Club really gives me belief in what I’m doing, which I think is key. If you know what you’re doing and you know you’ve got people backing you, it makes life and work that much easier. The Club have been amazing, I work with people who I trust every day, and work with people who I know want to improve me, which is fantastic.”

George’s Under-17 side are back in action when they host Bradford City behind-closed-doors at Canalside on Saturday 30 January 2021; kick-off 11am.
