Huddersfield Town Under-17s defender Shane Maroodza is delighted to be back in action following an injury lay off for a fractured foot.
The injury, which Shane picked up following the Young Terriers FA Youth Cup tie against Newcastle United, has seen him confined to the sidelines for the last four months.
The defender was quick to comment on good it felt to be back playing with his teammates in their Clarets Cup Quarter-Final victory over Preston North End.
“It felt excellent to be honest.
“It was fun to play, it’s been four months, so I was happy to be out there and to help the team.
“I like playing these high pressure, high profile games, they’re my favourite type of games to play in!
“I’m always ready for them, and almost scoring and almost getting an assist against Preston, I just really like them.”
The 16-year-old went on to discuss how frustrating it’s been picking up an injury just as he was getting into the swing of things with the Young Terriers.
“It was very annoying getting injured, because I’d started playing well and had a big performance in the FA Youth Cup.
“I feel like I could have applied myself more and even had the chance to play with the higher age groups if I’d stayed fit.
“The last few weeks in particular have been tantalising.
“I’ve known that I’ve been so close, so I’ve just felt like I’ve been really ready to get out there and play.”
The youngster also spoke about what he hopes to achieve now that he’s back.
“I just want to try and keep getting minutes, performing well and showing the coaches what I’m like again so that they can see the old Shane.”
Shane and his Under-17 teammates will be back in action on Saturday 24 March 2021 when they host Bradford City at Canalside.
