Huddersfield Town’s Under-17 Coach George Danaher is happy with how his new squad have settled into life at the Club so far.
The Academy’s new intake of Under-17 players have just finished their first week of pre-season, and Danaher admits they’ve made a good first impression.
“I think they’ve settled in well so far.
“The way we recruit players is slightly different to other clubs, we get players from all over the country and so it’s a little bit new for them all moving away from home.
“Coming into the building and seeing the First Team and B Team players in passing is a big deal for them, but they all seem to be handling it well!”
George’s side have been joined by three Under-19 players for a few of the sessions, something he sees as key to helping their development.
“I think it helps massively having Sonny Whittingham, Michael Stone and Charles Ondo there with them because they can try and help teach them the style of play.
“It’s a really exciting style of play, but it is one that takes a bit of time to understand.
“The players in the year above will obviously all understand the style, and so they’ve really helped in the training sessions and they’ll continue to help in the game tomorrow.”
The Under-17s play their first pre-season friendly against Bradford City tomorrow, welcoming them to Canalside for a 10.30am kick-off. Danaher explains what his Young Terriers will aim to get out the game.
“The aim this week has been around the ‘Terriers Identity’, and so we’ll continue that into tomorrow’s match.
“It focuses around the winning mentality, the desire, and the work rate of the team.
“That’s been the main focus of the week, so hopefully we’ll see some of that on the pitch.”
