- Game saw out end of Terriers’ training camp
Huddersfield Town continued their preparations for the upcoming Sky Bet Championship season with a competitive runout against Norwich City at their Lotus Training Centre on Friday afternoon.
Town started the game brightly, putting the hosts under some early pressure as Josh Koroma and Harry Toffolo both went close to opening the scoring early in the first half.
The hosts managed to get a foothold in the game and had a chance of their own when Pierre Lees-Melou’s effort was deflected just wide of the far post.
It was Norwich who opened the scoring after 14 minutes, when Lukas Rupp slipped the ball through to Teemu Pukki, who was able to lift the ball over Lee Nicholls.
The Terriers responded well to the threat, putting some pressure on Norwich throughout the rest of the first half with some high pressing play.
They almost managed to get back on level terms when Scott High’s cross was met by Josh Koroma, but he couldn’t quite steer the ball home.
Town started the second half quickly, swapping Lee Nicholls for Ryan Schofield, and were given the first chance of the half as Toffolo got away from his man. However, his cross was well dealt with by the Norwich defence.
The Terriers continued to push and managed to work another really good chance as Koroma slipped through High who forced Michael McGovern into a good save.
Chances were coming thick and fast in the second half with the next big chance falling to Koroma, but he dragged his shot wide from inside the box.
The Terriers kept pushing however with a four-minute attacking period seeing them unlucky not to equalise.
Some excellent play from Sorba Thomas and Jordan Rhodes saw them break towards the goal, but Christoph Zimmermann did just enough to block any danger.
Zimmermann denied Town again just moments later, this time blocking Josh Ruffels’ goalbound shot.
Against the run of play, Norwich scored in the 86th minute thanks to Adam Idah.
The final chance of the game fell to Town, with Toffolo coming agonisingly close to scoring, but McGovern was able to get low fast enough to catch his shot.
Whilst a disappointing result, Town will be able to walk away knowing how well they matched up to a Premier League side.
