Christopher Schindler has praised the impact that Caretaker Head Coach Mark Hudson has had on the squad as it prepares for Sunday’s Premier League game against Manchester City.
After a difficult week, Schindler and his teammates must focus on the task of taking on the reigning Champions at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
However, first, Chris took time to praise outgoing Head Coach David Wagner; the man who brought him to England and Huddersfield Town.
“I didn’t know a lot about the Club when he called me two-and-a-half years ago, but he’s made a huge impact on me, the football and the area.
“At that stage, I never thought I would play in the Premier League. He made that childhood dream come true.
“As a coach, he had a strict way of playing football. He talked to the players and tried to explain this idea; his clarity made it easy in the beginning. We had a lot of players from other countries and we all came together to enjoy success. David brought everyone together and had us pulling in the right direction.
“We spent an intense two-and-a-half years with a man we followed to a foreign country, and it turned out to be extraordinarily good for my family and my daughter. David is responsible for that and everyone should be very thankful and grateful.
“He told us that he is now our biggest supporter, and that he still believes in our chances.
“We have to keep on (going). David’s main message has been that our togetherness is our main strength and that we must stick together in this period.”
Now the Club must look ahead, and Schindler heaped the praise on his former centre back partner turned Caretaker Head Coach Mark Hudson.
“I had a similar situation at my former club, with a former teammate coaching us.
“As soon as Mark retired, I felt he would be a good (coach). He has all the abilities to be an exceptional coach and after the first few days, I have the feeling I wasn’t wrong.
“He’s an unbelievable character on and off the pitch. It’s been good for me, and for the dressing room, to have him there after a difficult beginning to the week; he’s brought a little bit of fun to lift everyone’s heads.
“You can see that Mark learned under David – he took a lot of ideas from him – but every coach has his own style and he’s changed things a little bit. It’s been important for us to get some new signals.
“The speed and intensity in training has been really high, which is normal because everyone wants to impress the man in charge.”
Challenges don’t come much tougher that Manchester City as the Terriers aim to reduce the gap between themselves and the teams outside the relegation zone, but Schindler is relishing the task at hand.
“It’s one of the easiest games we could have, because nobody expects anything!” he continued.
“However, in the situation we are in, we have to show our supporters that we want it; that we can do better than we have done so far.
“Only a couple of people will think we can get anything out of this game, but we still see a chance. We’ve learned over the last two-and-a-half years that we always have a chance.”
