Huddersfield Town Head Coach Carlos Corberán believes his side needs to learn from the Stoke City defeat.
The Terriers scored three goals at the bet365 Stadium, but left empty handed as the Potters capitalised on errors at the back.
When speaking after the game, Corberán explained that his players need to make better decision in certain moments.
“I think it’s more than the players at the back. We need to learn from this situation.
“Football is not only to perform well; football has moments where you need to understand the needs of the situation.
“For me, today, we helped the opponent in the first three goals we conceded. We had the conditions to avoid them.”
Town’s Head Coach explained that his side made errors which led to all the goals and he explained what went wrong in those situations.
“In some minutes we need to know what is needed from our action. The first goal was a set piece and so was the fourth. We are working a lot in those situations to concentrate. We didn’t concede those goals because of a direct finish, it was because of the second ball.
“The second goal we tried to play from the back. Hogg received the press from the back, and we didn’t close the back of him well to avoid the counter attack. There were a lot of details in this action; it wasn’t the position of Hogg, the centre-backs, we need to protect ourselves better.
“The third goal is a goal that we need to avoid. Not only because of the pass, but also in moments of the game we need to understand the needs of the action. It’s not the responsibility of one player, it’s the responsibility of the team.
“You need to know in football is not only to perform well, you need to compete well; compete is not only to run it’s to understand the needs of the game.”
Town did bag three goals at Stoke, but Carlos was keen to focus on the developments his side need to make.
“You can never be happy when you have a defeat. We know it’s important to have one style, you need to feel strong as a team on the pitch.
“The key is to always win a game and today we missed a good opportunity to add points to the table. The team had the conditions to win the three points today.”
There’s a quick turnaround now for the Terriers, who face Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday evening. Carlos explained how quick his side need to learn from this defeat.
“For me, the importance for everyone is to grow as a team and do it fast. In professional football you cannot spend a lot of time learning.
“You have to push a lot to learn fast and to put in a positive performance that will lead to a positive result.”
