Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley explained that his side needs to be better in both boxes.
The Terriers were beaten 3-1 by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground – a result that increases the threat of relegation.
When speaking after the game, Danny Cowley gave his thoughts on the goals.
“The goal came against the run of play. I thought we had a good way into the game and our attacking play was better than last Saturday.
“We put more balls in the box and asked more questions of our opponent. We lacked a cutting edge, which is fair, because for the quality we put in the box, we need to make the most of the attacking play we put together.
“The goal just before half-time is a disappointing one. I need to see it again, forgive me because I’ve only seen it live, but there looked to be a foul from Ameobi on Stearman from the corner in the front zone; it looked a foul.
“They had a second phase, Stears was down, they put the ball at the back post, Grabban gets on the back of Kingy and scores; it was disappointing to go it at half-time 1-0 down. I felt, at that point, on the reflection of the performance we maybe deserved to be 1-0 up.
“To come out in the second half and then to concede the goal we did was really tough.
“Young DD (Demeaco Duhaney) did great for a young player in such an important game. He unfortunately threw the ball away, our two centre-halves weren’t able to regain their defensive structure and you can’t give Lewis Grabban those kinds of chances because he will score them, then we are 2-0 down.
“Ultimately we need to do better in both boxes. A lot of our play between the boxes is good, but defensively we didn’t have enough physicality and we weren’t ruthless in our attacking box.”
Prior to Grabban’s opener, Town had huge appeals for a penalty turned down by the referee.
“It looked a penalty live to me, but I’ve got my Huddersfield Town glasses on,” said Cowley.
“I thought there was one in the second half on Lewis O’Brien too. I don’t want to make excuses though. I’d rather control what we can control.”
That result leaves Huddersfield Town in the relegation zone with just seven Sky Bet Championship matches remaining.
“We haven’t been in the relegation zone since October, so it’s a disappointing time to lose three games,” admitted Town’s Manager.
“I trust the players, as footballers and human beings, while we are down and disappointed at the moment, we are not out and died.
“We will get up and go again tomorrow. We will fight really hard at Birmingham; that’s what we intent to do.”
