Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley is keen for his side to respond with “a resilience and a robustness” against Birmingham City on Wednesday evening.
The Terriers go into the game at St. Andrew’s off the back of two defeats from two following the restart of the Sky Bet Championship season.
Danny is hoping that his side can learn from their opening two performances since the resumption and respond with a positive result against the Blues.
Speaking to the media via his virtual press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Town’s Manager explained what he would like to see from his players come 6pm on Wednesday.
“I think we’ve had two good days. It’s been a good opportunity for us to learn from the performance on Sunday, for us to re-group and now the boys are in good spirits going into what is a very important game tomorrow at Birmingham,” he said.
“I have trust in the players as both footballers and human beings. What we have to show is a resilience and a robustness.
“With the run of games, we have ahead of ourselves, we also have to stay laser focused and concentrate what we can control.
“We have to put a real energy into our performance, and for us it’s about affecting what we can affect, and we’re determined to do that.”
Danny will be hoping that Town can respond against a side who showed their own resilience last time out, coming back from 2-0 down to draw with Hull City at the weekend.
Having been in attendance at that game, Town’s Manager has been able to have a close look at Wednesday’s opponents and insists that the Terriers will have to be ready for the fight against what is a good team.
“We went to watch Birmingham on Saturday after training. It was a good game, a good one for the neutral.
“For us, it was a good game and we learned a lot from it. Birmingham are a good team, got two fantastic forwards in (Lukas) Jutkiewicz and (Scott) Hogan who are a real handful.
“They are a team that like to overload the midfield, get their full-backs high and wide, get lots of crosses in the box and ask lots of questions of you physically.
“We need to be ready to meet that challenge head on.”
Ahead of the game, Danny also provided a further injury update on the status of forwards Steve Mounié and Fraizer Campbell.
The latter came off the bench in the closing stages of Sunday’s defeat at Forest, whilst Mounié is yet to appear for Town following the break. Danny is optimistic that both will be able to play a part tomorrow.
“We’re hopeful. They’ve both been on the grass and we’re hopeful that they’ll have some involvement tomorrow night which will be a massive bonus to us all.
“We know that our win ratio with Steve or Fraizer in that position is significantly higher and we’re hopeful that we’ll be able to have them back for this next run of games.”
With tomorrow night’s game the first of the seven remaining fixtures in Town’s Sky Bet Championship campaign, Danny is hoping that his side can begin to build some momentum as they continue to work towards staying in the division for next season.
Although his squad will have to build that momentum themselves behind closed doors, Danny insists that his side are playing with the supporters in mind.
“We’re forever appreciative of the Huddersfield Town supporters and how they’ve supported us from the first day.
“We haven’t always given them that much to support, we’re respectable of that and it pains me and frustrates me in equal measure.
“We’re working really hard with the group to try and give them some happier days.
“There’s a deep care in this squad now and we’re working really hard to find the right answers.”
