Town to support Restart a Heart on Wednesday 20 October 2021

Huddersfield Town’s Sky Bet Championship game against Birmingham City on Wednesday 20 October 2021 will show the Club’s support for the Restart a Heart campaign.
Town are one of 10 Yorkshire football clubs who have teamed up to help spread awareness of the importance of learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Supported by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity, Restart a Heart Day is delivered and promoted in partnership with the Resuscitation Council (UK), British Heart Foundation (BHF), St John Ambulance and the Red Cross.
Training and demonstrations will be taking place in front of the Core Stand Lower Tier, next to the Club’s new Activity Zone, ahead of kick-off on Wednesday evening, and we’d encourage all fans to spend just 5 minutes learning the skills that might just save a life.
A cardiac arrest patient’s chance of survival dramatically increases if CPR can begin before the ambulance service arrives on scene.
Less than one in 10 people in the UK survive a cardiac arrest, but thousands more lives could be saved if witnesses start CPR immediately.
Paramedics and volunteers will be on hand to provide CPR training to fans before Wednesday evening’s game, and we urge as many fans as possible to get involved.
Over the last eight years on Restart a Heart Day, Yorkshire Ambulance Service has provided free CPR training to more than 151,000 youngsters at 82% of the secondary schools across Yorkshire.
Ahead of Wednesday’s game, Club Ambassador Andy Booth attended a session at Kirklees College to learn how to perform CPR.
Huddersfield Town’s Head of Goalkeeping Paul Clements has first-hand experience of the importance of CPR training, having utilised it to save a young boy’s life whilst at Middlesbrough FC in 2009.
“It’s so great to see every Yorkshire-based club, including Huddersfield Town, getting behind the campaign.
“When I went on the course as a youngster, I never thought that I would have to use what I learned. It isn’t only useful as I’m a football coach either; it could happen to your Mum, your Dad or anyone you’re passing on the street.
“Had I not known what to do that day, it would have impacted his family’s life and my life too. I cannot recommend learning about this enough.”
