REPORT: TOWN 1-0 MILLWALL

30 October 2021

Town bounce back to win at home

- Huddersfield Town beat Millwall 1-0
- Five home win for the Terriers
- Jonathan Hogg on the scoresheet!

Huddersfield Town saw out their fifth Sky Bet Championship home win of the season, beating Millwall 1-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The opening moments saw early efforts from both sides. Jed Wallace took a chance for the visitors, but Lee Nicholls was able to gather the ball.

Lewis O’Brien responded for Town, but saw his shot go just wide of the left post.

The first real chance of the game came in the 16th minute. Some great work from Duane Holmes in midfield, and then Sorba Thomas on the right, saw Thomas blast the ball towards Danny Ward. Unfortunately, the striker’s effort went over.

A corner fell to Town just moments later. Danel Sinani stepped up to take it, but it was well defended by Millwall’s defence.

Holmes was involved in the action one against as the clock showed 21 minutes gone. The midfielder did his man down the left wing, and saw his cut back lead to a manic few seconds as Millwall struggled to clear the ball.

Just moments later, Holmes was involved once again. The 26-year-old set Thomas away, whose cross found Sinani, but the Norwich City loanee’s attempted one-two was cut out.

Ward showcased another great hit in the 25th minute. The striker decided to take a shot from 25 yards out, but Balkowski was able to deny him.

The 33rd minute saw the Terriers handed a free-kick following George Saville bringing down O’Brien. Holmes saw his strike curl slightly too much and end up going just wide.

As the first half came to a close, Millwall managed to break away, but Nicholls leapt into action to gather the ball before launching it towards Thomas on the run.

Town almost broke the deadlock moments after the restart! Matty Pearson almost turned the ball in from a corner, but somehow the visitors were able to keep it out!

The game slowed for a period, with Millwall doing well to defend Town’s attack.

Holmes continued the second half as he had the first, who laid the ball off to Harry Toffolo. Unfortunately, Toffolo’s strike was deflected behind for a corner, which came to nothing.

A great chance fell to Town in the 64th minute. O’Brien dribbled through Millwall before playing Holmes in. The midfielder flicked it round the corner to Thomas, but the Welshman’s strike flew over.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 82nd minute! Hoggy rose highest to get on the end of Thomas’ delivery to head it into the back of the net!

Millwall attempted to get back into the game, but the next chance fell the Terriers’ way. Thomas took a free-kick after Koroma was fouled, but Ward’s volley bounced around the box before being sent out of play for a Town corner.

Town’s first yellow card of the game came in the 86th minute. It was handed to Koroma following a stand off with Ryan Leonard once the ball had gone out of play.

Koroma came close to doubling the Terriers’ lead just a minute later. Second half substitute Fraizer Campbell sent Koroma through, but his strike was straight at the ‘keeper.

Two late bookings followed for Town. Thomas was booked for taking too long after a throw-in, whilst Campbell was shown a yellow for a late challenge on Balkowski.

The final whistle blew, seeing all three points stay in Huddersfield!
