Huddersfield Town were unable to hold out a 1-0 lead at the Cardiff City Stadium, seeing the hosts come from behind to win 2-1.

The first shot of the game fell to the Bluebirds, with Ryan Giles trying an effort from distance. Thankfully, he dragged it well wide.

Town then began to build into the game, taking control of the ball and showing some nice passages of play.

Unfortunately for the Terriers, they were forced into an early change, as Captain Jonathan Hogg hit the ground after stretching for a pass. After being down for some time, the decision was made to take him off in place of Scott High, with Lewis O’Brien being handed the armband.

However, Town didn’t let that stop their stride, opening the scoring in the 12th minute! Cardiff under hit a back pass, allowing Danel Sinani to latch onto it and slip a neat finish under Alex Smithies!

The hosts responded well to falling behind, showing much more willing to get on the ball. The Terriers defended well, forcing Cardiff back with their press on several occasions.

Joe Rolls tried another long-range effort for the Bluebirds, but fired the ball wide.

Another half-chance followed moments later, but Tom Lees cut the out the final pass to concede a corner. Once again, Town defend it well.

As the clock showed 27 minutes, Cardiff were ensuring they got the ball towards Kieffer Moore at every opportunity. The striker clashed heads with Lees, but after a few moments they were both able to return to the field.

The hosts had a chance to get back in the game in the 34th minute. Perry NG crossed to Moore who knocked it back to Ralls, but Cardiff’s Captain headed it wide.

The 43rd minute saw a BIG chance fall Town’s way on the break. Danny Ward broke well following a nice touch from Duane Holmes, and Ward set Sinani off down the right. He tried to cross towards Duane Holmes at the far post, but it was just too quick for him to get to.

Another big chance followed immediately after. Harry Toffolo forced Smithies into a desperate save having been played in by a clever reverse ball from Holmes.

The Terriers were forced into another early change, with Josh Koroma coming on for Duane Holmes.

Lee Nicholls saw out the final minute with a BIG save to prevent Cardiff from equalising. NG cut in on his left and fired towards the top corner, but Nicholls read it well and ensured he was in the perfect position to block the shot.

The second half started just as the first had ended, with both sides flying forward at every chance.

Town had their first shot of the half in the 50th minute, with Ward firing over from distance.

The game slowed for a period, before Cardiff produced a great shot to deny High. Koroma held up the ball really well before laying it into the path of High, whose first time hit was blocked by one of the hosts defenders.

The 63rd minute saw the Terriers come SO close to doubling their lead! Smithies unleashed an incredible save to deny Levi Colwill, who looked certain to head in Sorba Thomas’ corner.

Just moments later Town hit the post! Ward beat Aden Flint to the ball and lifted his effort over the top of the onrushing Smithies. The ball span on the bounce, before coming back off the post.

Ward came close for the second time in as many minutes. Koroma showcased some neat play out wide to create room for a low cross, but Ward was unable to get there in time to turn it in.

Cardiff found their equaliser in the 74th minute, with Moore heading in from a corner.

A corner fell Town’s way after a dangerous free kick from Thomas was headed behind. It was another great delivery, but High got just beneath it and was unable to head it on target.

NG tried his luck at doubling the hosts lead, but saw his effort go well of Town’s goal.

The Terriers received a free kick in the 84th minute, as Leandro Bacuna was booked for a challenge on O’Brien. Unfortunately, Smithies was able to get up and scoop Thomas’ shot.
