Huddersfield Town Academy midfielder Ben Midgley was delighted to captain his boyhood Club to 2019/20 Clarets Cup victory at the John Smith's Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Mirfield lad netted a 69th minute penalty to seal a 1-0 victory for the Young Terriers over Burnley FC.
The midfielder admitted that he was relieved to have secured a cup triumph after a difficult season for the Academy in other knockout competitions.
"At the start we knew that all we had to do was win and that's all we aimed for.
"It's a brilliant feeling.
"We've already had the FA Youth Cup where we lost in the Third Round, another cup where we lost in the semis, so we needed to win this one and I'm delighted to get it over the line.
"Everyone in the dressing is just buzzing.
"As soon as we got in there the tunes were on, celebrations everywhere, we're all buzzing to have won."
Despite captaining the Young Terriers to victory, Midgley only returned to the Academy's sides last month following a sustained period out with injury.
"I've had eight months out due to injury and it wasn't easy at all.
"Everyone was playing well whilst I was out and you have those thoughts in your mind as to whether you're going to get back into the team or not, but I've come back and I've proven to myself that I can get in the team.
"To captain the team is always an honour, but to win in a cup final, I'm delighted."
The young central midfielder enjoyed his time playing at the John Smith's Stadium having supported the club from a young age.
"We play at Canalside on great pitches, but it's not that stadium feeling.
"We all want to get into the First Team and the First Team play here, so it's good to get a feel for it, especially in a cup final on the last day of the season!
“Growing up I’ve been watching Huddersfield since I was born, and I’ve always wanted to play at this stadium and it’s finally happened.”
