Huddersfield Town Head Coach Carlos Corberán says this squad need to show a reaction when they play Barnsley on Saturday 4 December 2021.

Town travel to Oakwell for a Yorkshire Derby as they continue their Sky Bet Championship campaign.

When speaking to the press in his virtual press conference, Carlos started by reflecting on Town’s 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough last time out.

“Middlesbrough competed better than us in the first half.

“We didn’t compete at the level we have to in the first half. In terms of the attack, we couldn’t break their press.

“In terms of the defence, we couldn’t stop them playing out.

“After their goal, they started playing even better, and we started playing even worse.

“In the second half, we started to react, but the reaction wasn’t enough to change the result.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, Town’s Head Coach discussed what he expects to see from the Tykes.

“Barnsley aren’t at their best at the minute, but we aren’t away from home either.

“It’s going to be two teams challenging each other for a positive performance.

“I’m not aware of Poya Asbaghi, but I do know that when clubs bring a coach into the Championship, it’s because they trust them to change the dynamic.

“It’s going to be a challenge, but after two defeats in a row we need to show a reaction.

“We need to show that we’re a competitive team.”

The Spaniard also provided the latest injury update.

“Jordan Rhodes has been out for a long time, but he is in a better physical condition that I was expecting.

“He played 60 minutes for the B Team the other day, and I think with this type of game exposure that he will be able to return and help the First Team.

“Álex Vallejo is having his surgery today.

“After the surgery, he’ll need five-six weeks before he can return to the group.

“Matty Pearson felt a pain in his back during the Middlesbrough game.

“He’s worked on the pitch with the medical staff, and if he can train tomorrow, he’ll be another player available on Saturday.”
