Young Terriers take a point on the road

Huddersfield Town’s B Team saw out a 1-1 against Newcastle United in their third group game of the Premier League Cup.
The result saw the Young Terriers extend their unbeaten cup run to three, building on victories over Birmingham City and Watford.
A game of two halves, a dominant first half saw Kian Harratt give Town the lead through a penalty. The second 45 saw Newcastle on top for the majority, with Jay Turner-Cooke latching onto a rebound to equalise.
The game started brightly for the Young Terriers, with Brodie Spencer, Brahima Diarra, and Jaheim Headley all showing some nice play.
Town had the potential to get an early opening goal as some great work from Loick Ayina set up Harratt, but the offside flag was up.
Turner-Cooke tried an effort for the hosts, but it proved no threat for Ryan Schofield, who was gaining important minutes in his return from injury.
The 21st minute saw an excellent cross from Josh Austerfield find Headley, who in turn tried to find Harratt. Unfortunately, the wind in the ground picked up and diverted the ball!
Joe White was the next Newcastle player to try and break the deadlock, but his effort went up and over the crossbar.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 28th minute. A tackle on Ben Midgley saw Town handed a penalty, which Harratt stepped up to take. Dan Langley went the right way and got a hand on it, but couldn’t prevent it from finding the back of the net!
The 32rd minute saw the first yellow card of the game shown to Ayina for a foul on Joe White.
Ayina was at the centre of the action again just moments later, showcasing some great defending to deny Newcastle.
As the minutes to half-time continued to count down, the Young Terriers found themselves incredibly unlucky not to have taken anything from a goalmouth scramble, with Harratt, Midgley, and Headley all attempting to convert a chance.
The second half saw Newcastle the side on top, holding possession and proving a threat for the majority of the 45 minutes.
The hosts for their equaliser in the 50th minute. After an excellent initial save from Schofield, Turner-Cooke was quick to latch onto the rebound and send it into the back of the net.
The 58th minute saw Schofield provide another huge save to deny the hosts from taking the lead through a nicely done set piece.
Headley had the Young Terriers’ first chance of the second half, but Langley was there with a big save to deny the left wingback’s low strike.
Town’s second yellow card of the evening fell Camara’s way in the 69th minute for a foul on White.
Matty Bondswell missed a huge chance to post the hosts ahead as the game went into the final ten minutes, sending his shot narrowly over the crossbar.
The 82nd minute saw Gio Bellagambi come on for Schofield, who’d been struggling since a clash with Stephenson earlier on in the half.
The 90th minute saw Harratt test Langley as the game headed into four minutes of added time.
Second half substitute Connor Shanks provided some excellent play following his introduction to the pitch, including a huge run in the third minute of added time.
The final minute of added time saw Camara with some unbelievable defending to divert two good winning chances for the hosts!
The final whistle blew, seeing Town take a well-deserved point on the road in their toughest Premier League Cup game so far.
