REPORT: TOWN B 3-2 FLEETWOOD TOWN

23 November 2021

Young Terriers victorious at home

- Town B beat Fleetwood Town 3-2
- Three unbeaten at Canalside for Young Terriers
- Goals from Micah Obiero (x2) and Kian Harratt

Micah Obiero’s double helped Huddersfield Town’s B Team to a 3-2 victory over Fleetwood Town at Canalside on Tuesday afternoon.

First-half goals from Obiero and Kian Harratt put the Young Terriers into the lead but a brace from Max McMillan levelled things up in the second period.

However, the Young Terriers did not dwell on surrendering their advantage as Obiero found the top corner with 11 minutes remaining.

The visitors enjoyed a fast start to the fixture, as winger Cian Haynes saw an effort from the edge clip the post on five minutes.

Moments later, Akiel Raffie managed to get around Ben Jackson on the byline and float the ball towards the penalty spot, but Jaheim Headley flicked the ball towards the left channel. An away trialist stood the ball back into the middle, where Danny Edwards glanced wide.

However, Town pushed back and took the lead on fifteen minutes.

Obiero received the ball just inside the area. The forward then wrong-footed Sam Bird before finding the far bottom corner.

On 21 minutes, Nicholas Bilokapic was called into action as he managed to scamper across his line and push Edwards’ deflected shot wide at his left-hand post.

On the half-hour mark, both Brodie Spencer and Harratt missed headed opportunities before the latter added Town’s second.

The forward received the ball just inside the right-hand side of the area, and arrowed home his 16th goal of the season from a tight angle.

Aside from a Barry Baggley effort that whistled past the far post, the Young Terriers retained the ball well to take a comfortable lead into the break.

However, the hosts felt a little too comfortable as the Cod Army came back into the game. McMillan gave an early hint of a comeback as he broke through the line of defence to smash past Bilokapic, but his strike was ruled out for offside.

The Young Terriers should have made it three-nil on the hour. Following great link-up play on the left, Headley crossed the ball onto the head of Harratt, who knocked the ball down to Obiero, but the forward’s volley kissed the crossbar before Bird headed the ball behind.

Moments later, McMillan halved the deficit. Hayes slipped the ball into the forward’s path, with McMillan sprinting past Luke Daley before finding the top corner from a tight angle.

10 minutes later, McMillan bagged his second goal of the game to complete their spirited comeback.

Fleetwood won possession high up the field, with Hayes again playing the ball into the feet of the 19-year-old, whose first touch saw McMillan get the better of Ben Jackson before hitting his shot past the ‘keeper.

However, the Young Terriers spurred back into life and retook the lead with 11 minutes remaining.

Another well-crafted move came down the left-hand side, with Headley poking the ball through a crowd of bodies and into the feet of Obiero, who took one touch before bending an effort into the top right corner.

The Cod Army almost equalised again through Hayes who, after beating the offside trap, drilled a shot towards the front post, but Bilokapic got down to hold.

Town also had further chances through Elliott and Brahima Diarra, but saw out a 3-2 victory.
