Head Coach Carlos Corberán believes his players deserved their 1-0 win over Millwall at the John Smith’s Stadium, hailing their effort as ‘unbelievable’.
The Terriers worked hard against a dogged Lions side that came into the game with four wins in their last five matches and had to wait until skipper Jonathan Hogg’s 82nd minute header to take the lead.
“First of all, it was a very important result after the last draw we took at home, and the last result at Bournemouth. It was important to change this dynamic and record a positive result,” Carlos explained post-match.
“The effort on the back of the three points today was unbelievable from the team – unbelievable.”
After a slightly slow start, Carlos believes his side were the better of the two sides all afternoon.
He continued: “In the first 15 minutes, everything was too slow, and we didn’t attack enough times. After this, we started to take the ball and were more dynamic.
“I thought our team was better than the opponent, although they tried to make us suffer in the last moments of the game with the long balls, aerials and second balls. I watched a team with the right mentality to achieve this important win in a tough game.
“We need to be prepared to play against any type of opponent in the Championship. The physical demand of every single game is too high, and that’s why you do not see a big difference when you analyse the table. That makes every game a challenge, as it was today.
“We had more of the ball and created more chances. For me, we dominated the game and had enough chances to score. After the first 15 minutes, I watched a mature performance – the type we want to show when we play at home. When you deserve the three points, it’s important to achieve them.”
