B Team forward Micah Obiero was happy with the performance in today’s Central League Cup victory over Rotherham United, despite feeling the winning margin should have been greater.
Town dominated the possession through the 90 minutes and secured the points through a header from Brahima Diarra and a Kian Harratt penalty, which cancelled out an unfortunate own goal from Ben Jackson.
And Obiero was pleased with the B Team’s performance.
“We dominated most of the play and there were loads of chances that we should have put in, but it was a good performance from us,” he explained.
“I thought we kept hold of the ball and had good movement in behind, but we weren’t clinical enough.
“We didn’t get ahead of ourselves and we didn’t switch off, which is something we did well with.
“[For the own goal] we were just sloppy for five minutes and that’s what happens when you get sloppy.
“I had a couple of chances - hitting the post and the bar - that on another day could have gone in, but I am happy to be able to get shots off.
“The goals will come. We need to take our chances and finish the game off earlier.”
Obiero played a big part in the winning goal, as it was his quick feet that forced the ‘keeper to bring him down for the spot-kick.
The 20-year-old has shown how important he is for the side’s link-up play, with the likes of Harratt being the biggest beneficiaries of his movement.
The forward added: “I quite like playing in a two or a three up top, as I like to link with other players and create something.
“It’s not just about scoring goals; it’s getting us up the pitch as well and I feel this is something that I bring to the team.
“When the strikers are there to finish the chances, it is a lot easier and there’s a lot less pressure.
“I just want to continue performing the best I can every game; whether that’s with assists, goals, or performing well in a game - it is what I’m here to do.”
