Huddersfield Town Head Coach Carlos Corberán was full of praise for the character of his side after they fought to win a dramatic game 3-2 at home against Blackburn Rovers late on.

Proud of how his team applied themselves right from the first whistle, the Spaniard was also aware of the threat Blackburn posed in attack having just won 5-1 against Cardiff City.

“The team showed a lot of energy from the first minute, which isn’t easy because they arrived to play having just performed two days ago.

“Blackburn arrived in a good moment having just scored five goals, and they have a very dangerous team in attack. They play a lot one-vs-one and that means you have to be very focussed and concentrated in defence.

“For me, the team showed a very good personality, tempo and intensity. When you score the goal and they draw, you need to have a lot of personality to give and go again in the game – and this is something that I feel very proud of my players for today. They showed a level of determination and confidence in themselves to continue going and push for the games.”

Carlos also stopped to praise Alex Vallejo for his contribution having stepped in for injured captain Jonathan Hogg, highlighting how having options within his squad was essential to success, and achieving their collective goal of making Town fans happy.

“For him to have the opportunity to play instead of Hogg is a lot of responsibility, because we know how important Hogg is for the team. Alex has all of the skills to be an important player for us, I’m very pleased when I see the players playing well.

“The most important thing today was to show that we’re an important group of players and we have a real team, and we know that if I don’t have an important player, we have other players that are ready to compete at the level they did today.

“I feel really pleased. We want always to make our people really happy. We want every time they come to enjoy watching a very serious team in attack and a very serious time in defence.”
