Huddersfield Town Head Coach Carlos Corberán was full of praise for his players after they overcame a tough opponent in visitors Hull City today.
The win was sealed by goals in each half from Tom Lees and Duane Holmes, but Carlos explained the win was far from routine due to the different challenges the Tigers can pose.
“I knew that Hull would demand a lot of energy for us to win the three points, as they are a very energetic team.
“They have options to play with fast strikers, trying to win the recoveries and counter-attack, or to play with more target strikers to get the ball to the box. We lived different types of games, but I thought the team showed real adaptation.
“We suffered in some moments – especially at the end of the game – but I am very pleased with our energy and the way we played in the first minutes. We dominated the game and created chances.
“Sometimes, after you score, you can be more defensive to try and protect the result you have. I thought we showed some good counter-attacks in the second half and for me, the second goal was key to get the three points. Without that goal, the game would have been more of a challenge.”
Lees’ first Championship goal for the Terriers came from another set piece situation – something that has been a regular source of goals for his team.
Carlos continued: “In the Championship, the set pieces are really important situations – in attack and defence. Not defending them well brings real risk, and you can miss important opportunities to score in attack. The team must manage these moments, as they can affect the results.”
