Under-17s Coach reviews first league game

Huddersfield Town’s Under-17s Coach George Danaher is excited to see what his new squad will bring following their opening Youth Alliance League game against Rotherham United.
The Under-17s’ 2021/22 season started on Saturday 7 August 2021, and Danaher was particularly pleased with their second half performance.
“It was a good challenge for us.
“The first 20 minutes was what I expected from the game in terms of a real surprise for the lads.
“It’s the first time they’ve seen what the league offers and what the game plan offers – I personally think it offers a massive challenge for the players.
“In that first 20 minutes they saw what that challenge was.
“At half time, they regrouped, dealt with the situation, and went back out and put on an excellent performance.
“The second half performance was really pleasing because I saw a lot of things that they’ve been working on in training being applied on the pitch, which I was delighted to see.
“That included a lot of the desire – sprinting forward and back, tackling, and winning duals.
“I also thought some of the build and the create phases in the second half were really good and we just lacked the finish.”
Danaher went on to discuss what he’s made of the group so far since their arrival at the Club.
“They’re a really exciting group.
“There are loads of players with a lot of potential.
“There’s a really positive energy around the group.
“We’re here as coaches to help guide their potential into a Huddersfield Town player, but in terms of the actual lads there’s a lot of good people within the group, all the lads are willing to work hard.
“I’m really excited to continue working with them.”
The Under-17s are back in action on Friday 13 August 2021 when they welcome Burton Albion to Canalside. Danaher explained what he hopes his side will have taken from last weekend, to benefit them on Friday.
“I hope we start a lot better, and we start attacking from the first minute.
“Rotherham was good because they got to see how other teams in our league play, but against Burton I expect us to be on it much sooner.”
